Preparing for a roofing assessment
Collect useful observations and questions for a roofing provider while keeping your preparation at ground level.
Record observations without climbing
Write down what prompted the assessment, when you first noticed it, and whether the issue changes after particular weather. Note the affected rooms or visible areas without assuming where the underlying problem starts.
Use existing photographs, maintenance records, or observations made from a safe ground-level position. Do not climb onto the roof or use a ladder just to prepare a quote request.
Explain the assessment you need
Tell the provider whether you are asking for an investigation, a repair proposal, or options for a larger project. Ask what their initial assessment includes and what information they can provide afterward.
Mention access restrictions, adjoining properties, parking, and any relevant building-management arrangements. Confirm who needs to be present and whether access to indoor areas is required.
Request a specific written proposal
Ask the provider to identify the work area, proposed materials, exclusions, waste removal, and how discoveries during the work will be handled. Ask them to explain the basis for any options they recommend.
Discuss scheduling, weather-related changes, and what documentation is included at completion. Keep the assessment and agreed scope so you can compare proposals addressing the same work.
