Comparing interior painting quotes
Review preparation, surfaces, finishes, and cleanup alongside the quoted price for your interior painting project.
List surfaces and finishes
Record the rooms and surfaces you want painted, including walls, ceilings, doors, and trim. Note the surfaces that should remain untouched. Use the same list when requesting each quote.
If you have not selected colors or finishes, say so. Ask how samples and final selections will be handled and when choices must be confirmed. Keep a record of agreed product names and finishes.
Ask about preparation
Request a description of the preparation included in the proposal. Mention visible damage, peeling finishes, or previous repairs without deciding how they should be treated. Ask the painter to inspect and explain any specialist assessment needed before work begins.
Clarify who will move furniture, remove fittings, and protect floors. Avoid starting sanding or stripping as preparation without first discussing the surface condition and appropriate precautions with the provider.
Agree on completion and changes
Ask whether the quote includes materials, preparation, application, cleanup, and moving agreed items back. Discuss access, use of rooms during the work, and the expected sequence of tasks.
Arrange a final walkthrough to compare completed work with the written scope. Record changes to the original brief and agree on their price before additional work proceeds.
